Position in Princeton: Project Editor
Project Editor
The Publications Office of the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, in Princeton, NJ, has a full-time opening for a well-organized and highly motivated individual to be responsible for the production flow from raw manuscript to bound book of a major series of archaeological monographs.
The Project Editor will be part of a small, friendly team working closely with authors to produce publications of the highest quality. Responsibilities include converting manuscripts for production; performing artwork assessments; corresponding with authors and freelancers; typesetting; reviewing page proof; and preparing press-ready pdfs. The successful candidate will have a sharp eye for detail and an exceptional ability to organize workflow.
Required:
- Editorial experience in an academic publishing environment
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Archaeology, Classics, or a related field
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Familiarity with applying author and style guidelines (e.g., the Chicago Manual of Style)
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word
Preferred:
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Photoshop
- Proficiency in ancient and/or modern Greek
- Familiarity with multiple European languages
Starting salary: $45,000–$50,000. Generous benefits, including vacation & sick days, holidays; medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; and School retirement contribution with no employee match required.
