Editor Search for Soundings: An Interdisciplinary Journal
The Society for the Future of Higher Education (SFHE) announces a search for a Chief Editor for the long-standing interdisciplinary journal Soundings, published by Penn State University Press. The Chief Editor will be responsible for ensuring that four high-quality issues of the journal are brought to publication each year.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Soliciting articles as needed
- Cultivating professional relationships with new and existing authors
- Providing both initial and final editorial review of journal issues
- Suggesting editorial revisions to manuscripts under review
- Soliciting and receiving reviews from peer reviewers
- Maintaining communication with Penn State University Press representatives
- Recruiting guest editors, reviewers, and editorial board members as needed
- Provide updates about the journal’s work to the SFHE Board of Directors as needed
A successful Chief Editor will demonstrate the following skills and characteristics:
- Experience with academic writing and/or editing
- Willingness to assist authors on bringing manuscripts up to publication standards and expectations
- Multi-disciplinary interests
- Knowledge of relevant academic organization, societies, and professional networks
- Openness to learning new technology and software
- Strong grasp of the Chicago Manual of Style
- Ability to meet deadlines and respond to inquiries in a timely manner
- Detail-oriented
In addition to the prestige of providing leadership for a scholarly journal that has been a premier publication of interdisciplinary research, the Chief Editor will also receive a modest $1000 per annum stipend.
