The burial monument of Amphipolis can be visited in the first half of 2022

The Minister was informed about the ongoing earthworks for the restoration of the shape and form of the Tomb – an extremely important technical project of antiquity – which is expected to be completed in September. The geotechnical works will start immediately, which provide for the construction of metal boxes with lightweight materials, in order to create retaining walls.
The project is estimated to be completed in November, so that the fixing and restoration of the burial monument can begin. Lina Mendoni requested a detailed schedule from the competent services of the Ministry of Culture for the work program until the summer of 2022, when the monument can be visited by special groups of the public. The timetable was requested to include the archaeological excavation of the four-sided building at the top of the Tomb, which is now documented to be the basis of a large size and signal weight.
With the completion of the expropriation process, the didactic restoration of the enclosure begins. At the same time, the Minister asked the Ephorate of Antiquities of Serres for detailed planning of the archaeological excavations on the adjacent Hill 133, as well as the search for the remains of the ancient Egnatia Odos, which is located topographically between the Kastas Tomb and the Hill 133.
