AAR Seeks Managing Editor to Oversee Academic Publications
The American Academy in Rome seeks to hire a Managing Editor to oversee academic publications, especially the Memoirs of the American Academy in Rome, among others. We are looking for a dynamic and engaged scholar who can interact with authors whose work spans the range of disciplines studied at the Academy. Editorial experience is required and reading knowledge of Italian is desirable. The position is for three years (renewable) and comes with a yearly honorarium of $7,000 plus a travel fund. The Managing Editor reports to and works in collaboration with the Andrew W. Mellon Humanities Professor and the AAR Director. A PhD in ancient studies, medieval studies, Renaissance and early modern studies, or modern Italian studies is required for this position.
The Memoirs of the American Academy in Rome began in 1915 and have been published almost annually, with some exceptions in difficult times, such as during the two world wars. The Memoirs is a double-blind peer reviewed journal that represents the interests of the American Academy in Rome, its fellows and residents, and the larger international community that congregates around its excellent library and facilities. It welcomes submissions in English or Italian by anyone working in the fields supported by the Academy, including ancient studies, medieval studies, Renaissance and early modern studies, and modern Italian studies.
