The GSU Center for Hellenic Studies is pleased to announce the creation, through the generous philanthropic support of our local community, of the George S. Kleris Memorial Scholarship.

We anticipate announcing the first award recipient in early April.

1. ELIGIBILITY

The George S. Kleris Memorial Scholarship will be awarded each year to an undergraduate or graduate student at GSU who has a demonstrated interest in Greek-related subjects, whether ancient, Byzantine or modern.

2. THE AWARD

The George S. Kleris Memorial Scholarship will provide $1000.00 to the successful GSU recipient in support of one of the following scholarly endeavors:

*study abroad opportunities in Greece, whether for language study, academic pursuits, archaeological excavation or creative pursuits

*support of Hellenic-focused scholarly work at GSU; such projects may be course-specific or more in the form of independent research and internships;

*research travel to relevant Greek archives or museum collections in the US and internationally

3. THE APPLICATION

Interested students will provide the following application materials to the Director of the Center for Hellenic Studies, in hard copy or in the form of a single pdf file, on or before March 29, 2018 at 5:00pm:

* a current GSU transcript ideally demonstrating a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0

*a one-paragraph biography indicating the Major, the Minor if relevant, and the anticipated date of gradation

*a 300-word essay describing the Hellenic Studies project or program for which the student is requesting support

4. THE DECISION

A Scholarship Review Committee, to be comprised of the Director of the Center for Hellenic Studies and designated GSU faculty, will meet to evaluate applications for the George S. Kleris Memorial Scholarship shortly after the March 29 submission deadline. The award winner will be announced in the first week of April.
