Dr. William Parkinson: “Into the Mani: The Archaeology of Diros Bay, A Neolithic Maritime Ritual Center”
The GSU Center for Hellenic Studies is pleased to announce the first in an exciting line-up of lectures in Mediterranean archaeology scheduled throughout the 2018 calendar year.
On Monday, January 29th, Dr. William Parkinson–Professor of Archaeology at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Curator of Anthropology at the Field Museum in Chicago–will deliver a lecture entitled “Into the Mani: The Archaeology of Diros Bay, A Neolithic Maritime Ritual Center.”
The lecture will be held at 7:30pm in Ackerman Hall, on the 3rd floor of the Carlos Museum at Emory University.
The Center for Hellenic Studies is grateful for the collaboration and co-sponsorship by Emory University’s Program in Mediterranean Archaeology, the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies (MESAS), as well as the Carlos Museum itself.
We owe a special word of thanks to Dr. Roxani Margariti of Emory and Dr. Nicola Sharratt of GSU, without whom this event would not have been possible.
Earlier in the day, Dr. Parkinson will meet with Georgia State University students who are interested in pursuing a career in field archaeology and/or museum curatorship (he is unusual in that he successfully does both). That event will be held at 12:00noon in Room 343 of Sparks Hall and is co-sponsored by the Department of Anthropology and the Anthropology Club.
Both events are free and open to the public.
